19-Year-Old Driver Arrested in Edo After Injuring Three Police Officers
A 19-year-old man identified as Nsikak Okon has been arrested in Edo State following a series of dangerous driving incidents that left three police officers injured.
Details of the arrest were shared by Lagos State Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, after a video showing the suspect’s apprehension went viral. According to reports, Okon was driving a heavily tinted vehicle without number plates when he first encountered police officers on patrol.
Witness accounts indicate that he sped past the officers in a reckless manner. Moments later, he returned to the same area and narrowly missed knocking down one of them. The situation quickly escalated when he allegedly struck three officers with his vehicle.
Two of the injured officers have since been treated and discharged, while the third remains under medical care.
In addition to the injuries, Okon’s actions reportedly caused damage to other vehicles along the route before he was eventually intercepted and arrested. A search of his car uncovered substances suspected to be hard drugs.
Reacting to the incident, CSP Hundeyin questioned the motive behind such actions, noting the seriousness of the offenses, which include reckless driving, endangering lives, and possession of illicit substances.
The case has sparked widespread concern online, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and stiffer penalties for dangerous driving. The incident has also renewed conversations about youth behavior, substance abuse, and public safety on Nigerian roads.
Authorities are expected to proceed with investigations as the suspect faces multiple charges.
